What Is Grouting
- To increase the load-bearing capacity of the concrete, masonry structure, rock mass, or soil the materials are injecting into the cracks or cavities is known as grouting and the material that is used for grouting is called grout.
- As a grout to fill the gaps a mixture of cement, sand, water or chemical are used.
- The grouting is used for filling gaps in tiles, repair concrete cracks, waterproofing filling gaps, ceiling joints, and soil stabilization.
- The foundation for the load-bearing structure the grouting is provided additional strength to the structure.
- In the construction, there are have been many types of grouting like chemical grouting, cement grouting, and bituminous grouting.
Type of Grouting
Generally, two types of grouting are –
1. G1 Grout:-
- For the non-vibration machinery like steel structures, ships, small pumps, towers, and for the many structures the G1 grout is mainly used.
- According to the relevant drawing, the precise application of the grout type to any location.
- The G1 grout is should be non-shrinkable, cementitious, and free flow with a compressive strength greater or equal to the foundation concrete.
- For the G1 grout, the compressive strength should not be less than 30N/mm2 at 7 days and for 28 days it should be 40N/mm2.
2. G2 Grout
- For the vibration of heavy equipment subjected and for the massive column bearing plates, prefabricated concrete structure, compressor, and many things for that grout G2 is generally used.
- The compressive strength G2 grout in 7 days should not be less than 50N/mm2 and 28 days is should not be less than 60N/mm2.
- For the grouts 9N/mm2 in 28 days, the flexible strength should be exceeded.
- According to the relevant drawing, the precise application of the grout type to any location.
Experiment of Grouting
There are have many uses of grouting, that’s are below-
- The experiment of grouting is, it increases the load-bearing capacity of the concrete, masonry structure, rock mass, or soil.
- The experiment of grouting is, As a grout to fill the gaps a mixture of cement, sand, water or chemical are used.
- The experiment of grouting is, to provide additional strength to the foundation it is applied.
- The experiment of grouting is, is applying for filling gaps in tiles, repair concrete cracks, waterproofing filling gaps, ceiling joints,d for soil stabilization.
Characteristics of Grouting
There are have been many characteristics of grouting that’s are below-
-
- To ensure high quality of mortar in pre-mixed powder the grouts are available.
- The characteristic of grouting is; it has shrinkage compensation property.
- With grouts, the problems are not shown like bleeding and segregation.
- To get the high effective bearing area the grouts are provided.
- The grouts have a non-corrosive property in construction.
- The grout can easily have pumped and poured as per the construction required.
- The grout is an adjusted material, so as required its consistency can be control.
- The grout is an inflammable and non-toxic material.
- The grout should have great flowing property.
- The grout is easy to use. It has just come as one component product that just mixed with water and is ready to use.
- The grouting should have an effecting adhesion property with concrete.
Types of Grout for Ceramic Tile
There Are Many Types of Grouts That’s Are Below-
1. Unsanded Grout
- The un-sanded grout is suitable for grout joints less than 3.175mm wide for wall tiles.
- This grout is more strong and economical in construction.
2. Finely Sanded Grout
- With joints, 3.175 to 9.535mm wide the finely sanded grout is generally used for floor tiles.
- This grout is more strong and economical in construction.
3. Quarry-Type Grout
- For the ceramic tiles, the quarried type is similar to the finely sanded grout. But utilized the coarser grade sand.
- 525 to 12.7mm wide joints the quarried type grout is suitable.
- This type of grout is more strong and economical in construction.
4. Epoxy Grout
- The epoxy is produced by a hardener and epoxy resin.
- The epoxy grout has excellent bonding strength and high resistance power again chemical reactions.
- The epoxy grout is suitable for countertops and other susceptible areas.
- This type of grout is more strong and economical in construction.
Advantage of Grouting
There have many advantages of grouting that’s are below-
- The advantage of grouting is, it increases the load-bearing capacity of the concrete, masonry structure, rock mass, or soil.
- The advantage of grouting is, as a grout to fill the gaps a mixture of cement, sand, water or chemical are used.
- The advantage of grouting is, to provide additional strength to the foundation it is used.
- The advantage of grouting is, it is applying for filling gaps in tiles, repair concrete cracks, waterproofing filling gaps, ceiling joints, and soil stabilization.
- The common advantage of grouting is; to get the high effective bearing area the grouts are provide
- Another advantage of grouting is; the grouts have a non-corrosive property in constructions.
- The grout can easily have pumped and poured as per the construction required, this is the advantage of grouting.
- The advantage of grout is the grout is an adjusted material, so as required its consistency can be control.
- The grout is a flammable and non-toxic material. So it is widely used in construction.
- The advantage of grout is it has great flowing properties.
- The grout is easy to use. It just comes as one component product that is just mixed with water and is ready to use.
- The grouting should have an effecting adhesion property with concrete.
Disadvantage of Grouting
As like above advantage, the grouting has been many disadvantages that’s are below-
- The disadvantage of grouting is, in grouting, many materials are injecting into the cracks or cavities to improve the strength of the structure that increases the weight of the structure.
- Using many materials as grout material the total cost of the building is increase that is another disadvantage of grouting.
- The disadvantage of grouting is; for the grouting in construction specialized labor is required.
- The disadvantage of grouting is; for grouting in structure accurate drawing is needed.
