Standard Brick Sizes in England

Standard Brick Sizes in England

The majority of bricks in the United kingdom are manufactured to a regular brick scale of 215 mm long, 102.5 mm wide, about 65 mm high ( 215 mm x 102.5 mm x 65 mm) as well as placed with a minimal 10 mm mortar joint.

There seems to be, nevertheless, an increasing movement toward non-standard brick sizes, including such Wienerberger’s Roman and Megaline bricks.

Longer, narrower sizes are popular right now, with brick heights of less than 50 mm and brick lengths of more than 500 mm not unusual. Architects and engineers are using these brick sizes to allow these modern designs stand out in a crowd.

1. Roman Brick Range

Roman Brick Range

The Roman range’s brick dimensions are 400 mm x 100 mm x 40 mm. These exclusive bricks are manufactured on a customized line, giving them a distinct personality.

The combination of modern brick proportions, a wide range of colours, and distinct textures makes these bricks ideal for designers looking to add a sense of exclusivity and prestige to a project.

2. Megaline Brick Range

The Megaline collection is ideal for designing a sleek, contemporary look. The Megaline brick dimensions are 288 mm x 88 mm x 48 mm.

The scale of good quality bricks should be consistent. According to ASTM, the standard dimension of a brick in the United States is 203 mm x 92 mm x 57 mm ( length x width x thickness ). The most popular modular brick scale is 194 mm x 92 mm x 57 mm.

This is the finest, optimal, fine, standardised, regular, widely used, and nominal size of brick used in house building in the United States.

The standard brick scale in Australia, according to Australian standard AS 4455, is 230 x mm 110 mm x 76 mm ( length x width  x thickness ). This is the finest, optimal, fine, uniform, widely used, and nominal size of brick used in house building in Australia.

Some brick dimensions, such as 290 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm and 290 mm x 90 mm x 50 mm, are also used.

Standard Size of Brick in India

Standard Size of Brick in India

In India, there are two types of bricks: regular bricks and nominal bricks. According to BIS, the normal brick scale is 190 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm. The length of the brick becomes 200 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm with mortar thickness, which is also considered as the nominal scale of the modular brick.

Traditional Size of Brick in Inches

Standard brick sizes in inches range from 8′′ to 10′′ in length, 4′′ to 5′′ in width, and 2′′ to 3 ′′ in thickness. The widely used nominal scale conventional / traditional brick is roughly 9” x 4 12 “ x 3 ”.

Conventional Size of Brick in mm

Length ranges from 200 to 250 mm, the width from 100 to 130 mm, and the thickness ranges from 50 to 75 mm. The standard nominal scale for traditional/conventional brick is 230 mm x 114 mm x 76 mm.

Types of Standard Size in India

Standard size of brick used in india are two types.

  • Modular Brick
  • Non Modular Brick

Standard Size of Brick in mm Are Following

Modular brick dimensions ( l x b x h ) i.e., 190 mm x 90 mm x 90 mm and 190 mm x 90 mm x 40 mm. Non modular brick sizes ( l x b x h ) i.e., 230 mm x 110 mm x 70 mm and 230 mm x 110 mm x 30 mm can also be used.

Bricks of 90 mm and 70 mm height are provided with a frog dimension 10 mm to 20 mm deep on one of their flat sides; however, bricks of 40 mm and 30 mm height, as well as those rendered by extrusion operation, are not provided with frog.

Standard Size of Brick in Inches Are Following

Modular brick dimensions (l × b × h) – 7.5 ″ × 3.5 ″ × 3.5 ″ and 7.5 ″ × 3.5 ″ × 1.5 ″ Non modular brick sizes (l × b × h) – 9 ″ × 4.3 ″ × 2.75 ″ & 9 ″ × 4.3 ″ × 1.18 ″ can also be used.

Bricks of 5 ″ & 2.75 ″ height are provided with a frog dimension  0.4 ″ to 0.8 ″ deep on one of their flat sides; however; bricks of 1.5 ″ & 1.18 ″ height, as well as those rendered by extrusion operation, are not provided with frog.

Standard Brick Sizes in Nepal

Standard Brick Sizes in Nepal

The regular brick must be 240 mm long, 115 mm wide, and 57 mm thick, with a tolerance of + / -10 mm on weight, + / -5 mm on width, and + / -3 mm on thickness, according to Nepal National Building Code ( NBC 109 : 1994 ). In reality, however, the size of the bricks produced varies greatly across the world. Bricks manufactured in the Terai area are usually larger in size than those manufactured in the Kathmandu valley.

The below are the different sizes of bricks available on the market :

  • Length 230 mm – 250 mm.
  • Breadth 110 mm – 120 mm.
  • Thickness 50 mm – 75mm.

The Nepal Building Code ( NBC ) specifies a crushing strength of 35 kg / cm2 for brick. In fact, however, the crushing power is typically greater than 7. According to the Nepal Building Code, the water absorbance of bricks should be 15 % for machine-made bricks, but it can be up to 25 % for hand-molded bricks.

Brick Size

The standard co-ordinating size for brickwork is 225 mm x 112.5 mm x 75 mm (length x depth x height). This includes 10 mm mortar joints, and so the standard size for a brick itself is 215 mm x 102.5 mm x 65 mm (length x depth x height).

Brick Paver Dimensions

The most commonly used paver brick size is 4″ x 8″ (10cm x 20cm in the metric system). However, other sizes are not rare at all. If you happen to need to calculate a brick’s volume, the thickness is usually 2″ (5 cm). The only exceptions are the 14″ x 14″ and the 12″ x 18″ bricks.

King Size Brick

King size brick are 9 5/8″ l x 2 5/8″ h x 2 3/4″ thru the wall, for a nominal face dimension of 10″ x 3″ with a standard 3/8″ mortar joint. They conform to astm c652 and are made at most acme brick plants. Use of acme king size brick results in lower labor cost, lower mortar cost, and faster construction time.

Retaining Wall Block Sizes

For heavy-duty walls up to 30 ft. Tall, go with full-size blocks. They’re 16 to 18 in. Long x 6 to 8 in.

Retaining Wall Blocks Dimensions

To keep the bottom row of blocks from pushing outward, bury the lowest section of a retaining wall. The general rule of thumb is to bury about one-eighth of the height of the wall. For example, if your wall will be three feet (36 inches) tall, the first course of blocks should start five inches below soil level.

Paving Brick Size

Clay paving bricks usually come in face sizes of 4 by 8 inches, but other sizes are available. Face sizes are also available in both 3 5/8 by 7 5/8 inches and 3 by 7 inches. Thickness can vary between 1 1/4 inches and 2 1/4 inches, the latter being the most popular.
